Located across the Nam Un River at Phangkhon District of Sakon Nakhon Province,
this 29.5-m high and 3,000 m long earth dam which was constructed in 1967 and
completed in 1974 can impound water within its reservoir of 520 million cubic meter
retention capacity. With distribution system completed in 1981, the dam has
enabled cultivation in the areas of 29,728 ha in the wet season and 10,080 ha in
the dry season as well as flood alleviation in the Nam Un, Huai Pla Hang and
Songkram river basins.
