The dam was built in 1976 across the Mae Kuang River at Doi Saket District
of Chiang Mai Province as an earth dam of 73-m height and 610 m. crest length
able to impound water by 263 million cubic meters. Completed in 1993, the dam
can benefit the cultivated areas of 28,000 ha in the wet season and 14,000 ha in
the dry season. By the dam construction, flood disaster in the Mae Kuang and
Mae Ping river basins was alleviated as well.
