Mae Ngat Sombunchon Dam

It is an earth dam with riprap surfaces constructed during 1977-1985
across the Mae Ngat River at Mae Taeng District of Chiang Mai Province.
The dam is 59 m high and 1,950 m long. The reservoir of 265 million
cubic meters capacity can supply water to the total farm lands of 30,080 ha,
of which 4,800 ha are under the Mae Ngat O&M Project and the rest are under
the Sinthukitpricha Weir Project in Chiang Mai Province and the
Old Mae Ping Project in Lamphun Province. Power plants were also
constructed to generate 24.50 million kW electricity. The reservoir also
serves as a fish cultural ground and a famous tourist spot of the province.
