Detailed Map of Kaem Ling 2

Kaem Ling Project initiated by His Majesty the King is a drainage work from upper area through the canal southwards to a large storage canal near seashore. When the sea level is lower than water level in the canal, the water in such canal is drained through a regulator by gravity and pumped out in order to let the water in the canal be at the minimize level. This will help water from upper canal flow into the storage canal at all time. On the contrary, if the sea level is higher than water level in the canal, the regulator is closed in order not to let water flow return…

Construction of the Kaem Ling Project (Temporary) “Khlong Mahachai–Khlong Sanamchai

Kaem Ling Permanent Project could not be finished in time to cope with flood disaster of 1996, the construction of 10 temporary regulators are accelerated ; 6 of which are undertaken by RID , namely

Flood will be drained through these six regulators by gravity especially in time of sea water low tide at the rate of 2.40m3 /day and by pumping (through Mahachai Regulator ) at the rate of 1.70 m3 /day.

Khlong Mahachai Regulator

This regulator consists of 4 gates of 6.00-m width each and 10 units of water pumps of 3 cubic meter/second capacity each. Its construction was commenced on the first of August 1996 and the main parts were finished for trial on 16 September 1996.

Khlong Mahachai 3 Regulator

This regulator consists of 1 gate of 4.00-m width. The construction of its main parts was finished for trial on 16 September 1996.

Khlong Chek Regulator

This regulator consists of 1 gate of 4.00m width. The construction of its main parts was finished for on 16 September 1996.

Khlong Khok Kham Regulator

This regulator consists of 1 gate of 4.00m width. The construction of its main parts was finished for on 16 September 1996.

Khlong Samae Dam Regulator

This regulator consists of 1 gate of 4.00m width. The construction of its main parts was 100 % completed while its hoist frame and gate was expected to be finished for on 18 September 1996.

Construction of the Keam Ling Project (Permanent) “Khlong Mahachai-Khlong Sanamchai”

On 17 September 1996, the Royal Irrigation Department entered into a contract with a Consultant for the study and planning of environmental impact study and detailed design of the following main structures of project:

The study and design took about 12 months to conclude the pattern of water drainage from the West bank of the Chao Phraya river to the sea as initiated by His Majesty and the design of all permanent structure for complete drainage system ready to be uses for their construction since 1997.

Construction of the Keam Ling Project “the Lower Tha Chin River”

The construction works of the Keam Ling Project “the Lower Tha Chin River” consists of the construction of a regular and a pumping station across the Tha Chin River further up of the Samut Sakhon Province. This regulator helps draining excess flow of the flood season to the Gulf of Thailand by gravity during the sea low tide while preventing seawater intrusion during the high tide. If drainage by gravity is insufficient due to huge flood, the pumping station will help accelerate the flow or divert the flow to right or left natural channels to keep the water level of the Tha Chin River lower at all times. By this management, the river will serve as “Keam Ling” or monkey’s cheeks sufficiently receiving flood inundated on both banks of the Tha Chin River and draining it to the Gulf of Thailand.

In October 1995, the Royal Irrigation Department employed a Consultant for the environmental impact and feasibility study of the Lower Tha Chin Regulator. The study, which took about 18 months and completed in September 1997 revealed its feasibility and proper type and location of the project to be considered for detailed design and construction in 1998.
